Rick Neuheisel to Dallas

Today, the United Football League announced Rick Neuheisel as the head coach of the Dallas Renegades for the upcoming season. This move comes two weeks after Bob Stoops announced his retirement from coaching, following nearly 40 seasons across college and professional football.

Neuheisel brings extensive head coaching experience at the collegiate level, having led his alma mater UCLA, along with Colorado and Washington during his career.

He also coached professionally in the NFL as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Baltimore Ravens from 2005 to 2007, and later returned to the pro game in 2019 as head coach of the Arizona Hotshots in the Alliance of American Football.

Away from the sidelines, Neuheisel has become a familiar voice in sports radio as co host of Full Ride on SiriusXM College Sports. According to co host Chris Childers, he is expected to continue hosting the show.

As far a I know and was told by Rick himself, he will stay on with Full Ride. He may have to miss here and there. Go Renegades!

Now 64, Neuheisel has been out of coaching for several years. So why return now? For him, the timing simply feels right.

“People ask if I miss coaching, and I say that every day. It’s about the ability to put together goals and strive for them. And when you fall short, you figure out what you did wrong and strive again. When you finally reach the goal, you celebrate, and then look forward to the next goal. I’m at a point where the timing couldn’t be better.”

The Dallas Renegades will kick off this spring and will play home games at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
