Reagan Martin’s Spotlight

Reagan Martin is Fastpitch Wire Softball’s player spotlight for this article, and I have been quite impressed with her work ethic and the joy she gets from playing the game. A couple of words that stand out to me from Reagan is consistency and fun. She seems to enjoy the process and also finds the fun in it all.

I always say that in order to be successful in sports or anything, having fun while doing it will make things a bit easier. Having said that, let’s get into who Reagan Martin is on the field and off.

Balancing Academics and Athletics

Reagan Martin is from Charlotte, North Carolina, and attends Ardrey Kell High School. She is a class of 2028 MIF, utility player, and catcher. She is now a part of the Birmingham Thunderbolts Premier 2028 team. Martin has made sure to stay on top of not only her play on the field but also her academics. I asked her about her 4.38 GPA, and her workflow is all natural.

“I’ve always been someone who likes to get things done and not procrastinate, so I would say keeping up with schoolwork and making sure I don’t fall behind comes pretty naturally to me,” said Martin.

The Grind Never Stops

When it comes to her game, the grind is constant. It sounds as if Reagan Martin is always putting in the work whenever she can.

“It has been a lot of fun continuing to work and improve as a player. My weekly routine to stay sharp includes getting reps off the tee at home, workouts with my school team, and with my hitting coach.

“I also work with a strength and agility coach and throw with my dad during the week. It was tough to train this past summer due to my busy travel ball and camp schedule, but getting back into my routine at home has been a lot of fun.”

Her nonstop work ethic paid off this past spring, helping guide the Ardrey Kell Knights to the 2025 SoMeck Softball Conference Tournament Championship. She was selected as a SoMeck 4A All-Conference Player and, as a freshman, earned North Carolina 4A All-State honors. Those are quite the accomplishments for a first-year player.

Standout Freshman Season

Her numbers speak for themselves. According to MaxPreps, Martin posted a .513 batting average with a .593 on-base percentage and a .987 slugging percentage. She hit seven home runs, drove in 36 RBIs, scored 35 runs, and added 11 doubles, two triples, and nine stolen bases in 26 games.

A remarkable freshman campaign, and she continues to put in the work to improve and stay at the top of her game.

Connect Carolinas Experience

This past weekend, Martin participated at Connect Carolinas Camp. I asked her about the experience of working in front of major college programs.

“It was so much fun getting to have individual time with the coaches and learning a little bit more each session. I always get nervous at the camps, but after a few minutes, I settle in and get comfortable with those around me,” said Martin.

“It’s great to be able to ask the coaches questions and hear how they perceive the game and like to compete. I always leave the Connect sessions learning something new.”

Great weekend at Connect Carolinas working out elite softball programs.💙 Thank you @DDSBandEvents for putting on the event and to the coaches who attended after a long summer season 😎 on the road. Love for the Game

By now it is clear that softball has been good to Reagan Martin, and she agrees.

“Softball has been great for me. I love the competition and continuing to improve at a sport I love to play.”

Who She Looks Up To

Some athletes point to a professional player or a seasoned college veteran as their inspiration. Martin’s choice shows how closely she watches those she has shared the field with.

“Someone I look up to in the world of softball has to be Anna Hinde. She played for Team NC Hinde and is starting her first year playing for Florida State. I had the opportunity to work closely with Anna and get to know her as a person. She is one of the nicest people and has helped me improve in so many ways.”

That speaks volumes about the person Anna Hinde is. To leave that kind of impression on someone is an accomplishment in itself.

More Than a Softball Player

When I asked what she wanted college coaches to know about her, Martin’s answer showed perspective beyond the game.

“Something important I would like colleges to know about me is that I enjoy the little things. Being able to sit down with my dog and watch a movie, read books, and spend time with my friends are some of the things that bring me the most joy and remind me that I am more than a softball player.”

Reagan Martin is a player who blends talent with hard work, fun, and humility. Whether she is on the field, in the classroom, or enjoying an evening with her dog, she is all-in on everything she does. The future looks bright for this young athlete from Charlotte.
