Coach John Rittman: Extended Through 2031

Today the Clemson University Board of Trustees Compensation Committee approved Head Softball Coach John Rittman to a contract extension through the 2031 season. Coach Rittman was selected as the Clemson Softball coach on November 3, 2017.

The program’s first action took place on February 7, 2020, against St. John’s at UCF’s Black & Gold Tournament in Orlando, Florida.

The Tigers finished 2025 with a 48-14 record and set many program records along the way. Clemson as a program, surpassed the 200 overall win mark and reached 100 wins in ACC play.

Coming off their first ACC Tournament Championship and a Super Regional appearance against the eventual National Champion, Texas Longhorns, the Clemson Tigers Softball program is consistent and on an upward trajectory.

I'm Charles Mays, the founder of Mays Sports Media, an independent sports outlet I built from the ground up. I'm a Ridgely, Tennessee native now based in Knoxville, and I got my start covering Florida State athletics for SB Nation's Tomahawk Nation before stepping out on my own. My coverage now centers on Vanderbilt Athletics and the sport of softball at the collegiate and pro levels, with a broader take on national sports stories worth telling. I also launched the Fastpitch Wire Softball brand in 2025, covering softball at all levels. As an independent writer, I'm not backed by a major network or corporate media group. I've earned my access, my sources, my credibility and trust through ethical and serious work.
