Anna Frazier wraps up dominant month in the Scenic City Collegiate League with standout play on both sides of the ball
Scenic City Season Comes to a Close
Today wrapped up the Scenic City Collegiate League season, as the Smoky Mountain Rain defeated the Bandits 5-4 in nine innings. You may ask, “What is the Scenic City Collegiate League?”
The Scenic City Collegiate League is a summer league for college softball players looking to further their game and get extra reps over a solid month of competition. It is one of several regional leagues under the American Collegiate League umbrella, founded by Ryan Moore. You can learn more about them here.
Played in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the league is open to players from all levels of college softball. Whether you are a Division I athlete seeking extra work or a Division III player looking to prove yourself, all are welcome.
Anna Frazier Stands Out in Every Way
That brings me to my spotlight player of today and really the entire summer. Anna Frazier is a rising senior at Greensboro College in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Greensboro College Pride is an NCAA Division III program competing in the USA South Athletic Conference.
Frazier is a two-way player who plays infield and pitches. In two seasons at GC, she is a career .322 hitter with three home runs, 51 RBIs, 59 runs scored, and 79 total hits. She has also stolen 19 bases, with 18 coming this past 2025 season.
In the circle, Frazier has compiled a career 10-6 record with a 2.76 ERA, 43 strikeouts, and a .258 opponent batting average across 94 innings pitched.
Greensboro College is led by Head Coach Brianna Strickland, whom Frazier speaks highly of.
“She’s been a very good coach for me. She’s helped develop me, not only as a player, but as a person as well, off the field. So it’s been a really great experience to have her as my head coach.”
A Summer Opportunity Taken
I asked Frazier today how she heard about the Scenic City League and what this past month in Chattanooga was like?
“Yeah, so, I’m going into my senior year at GC, and I wanted to have a little bit more time, not ready to be done with the game of softball. So I was looking up online, places that I could play this summer, and I ran into this league on my Google search and applied for it, and I’m so happy that I did, because I’ve enjoyed my time here.”
“I didn’t know what I would have to expect, especially being a D3 player and coming in and you see all these, like, big name schools that people play at and stuff. So I just really came out here to have a good time and like, just to put myself to another test that I haven’t had before, and just to see what happened and I really enjoyed it. The girls on my team, they’re really special and they’ve been great to play with and be friends with.”
Results That Speak Volumes
Watching Frazier play, you would never think she comes from a Division III program. It proves that talent shines no matter the label. While in the SCCL, she was nothing short of excellent.
Today, Frazier led the Rain to an extra innings win for the championship, and her stats were nothing short of amazing. She went 2-for-4 with 2 home runs, 4 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. Also tossed a 9-inning complete game in the circle, allowing just 1 earned run with 5 strikeouts.
At the plate, Frazier slashed .322/.414/.610, led the team with four home runs, drove in 14 runs which was second on the team, and scored 11 runs for the summer.
In the circle, she went 5-1 over 35 innings with 20 strikeouts and a .178 opponent batting average.
Coaches Took Notice
Everyone I talked to was impressed with what they saw from Frazier. Smoky Mountain Rain Head Coach McKenzie Onyango, who recently accepted the Pitching Coach role at the University of North Texas, could not say enough about her.
“Anna is definitely a beast and that’s what I’ve been calling her all season. Like, she just gets in there, has fun, smiles, no pressure on her ever. And it’s amazing to just talk to her, get inside her mind, and think what she’s thinking and, you know, it’s not very many pitchers can go seven innings yesterday and nine innings today and two home runs for us to win the game. I mean, name me another player that’s capable of that. And there’s not very many. And Anna’s just a down-to-earth person. She is an absolute team player and I can’t say enough good things about her.”
All Heart for the Game
It is refreshing and inspiring to see players like Frazier use their summer to keep working on their game. When they could be taking time off, they are out there grinding in the heat and often playing in front of nobody. That is what the Scenic City League and others like it are about. It is all about love for the game and putting in the work when no one is watching.
Frazier represents the majority in my opinion. There is a lot of hidden talent at small schools and most people never hear about them. A lot of those players are competing because they love it and to help pay for school.
I am glad I had the chance to see what Anna Frazier can do on the field, and I wish her nothing but the best as she heads into her senior year at Greensboro College.
Next Year
