More times than not, going home feels nice and welcoming. Coach Kristi Bredbenner and the Wichita State Softball team added three graduate assistants to the staff this week. All three are former Shockers, and All-Americans as well.

Coach Bredbenner added former Shockers Sydney McKinney, Lauren Lucas, and CC Wong.

Sydney McKinney is a current infielder for the Bandits in the Athletes Unlimited Softball League. McKinney is currently having a great year, hitting .464 with two home runs, 12 RBIs, and 11 runs scored. Her fielding has been on point as well, with a 1.000 fielding percentage, recording 14 putouts, 21 assists, and two double plays turned.

McKinney is the most decorated softball player in program history, earning All-America honors three times and a two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Lauren Lucas just finished her career with the Shockers. She is a three-time All-AAC First Team member. The second baseman started in 166 of the 175 games played for Wichita State.

Lucas was a .377 career hitter, with 27 home runs, 144 RBIs, 138 runs scored, and 23 stolen bases during her time on the field in Wichita. Lauren Lucas is currently playing professionally with the New York Rise this season.

Wong played for the Shockers in the 2024 season, and in 50 games put up an amazing year, slashing .470/.579/.868 and tallying 14 home runs, 50 RBIs, 53 runs scored, and 14 doubles. She is currently representing her home country with the Canadian National Team.

Coach Kristi Bredbenner is very happy to have all three on staff. (Quote provided by Wichita State Athletics)

“We are ecstatic to have Sydney, Lauren and CC back,” Bredbenner said. “Their willingness to want to stay and give back to Shocker Softball says a lot about their experience. Most importantly, their knowledge, passion and desire to develop the next generation of Shocker is evident. All three of them continue to represent Wichita State at the highest level. We are proud of their accomplishments, and we are so excited to have them share their experiences with our program.”
